The Gifted Venus
by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849)
Limited Edition 1980, Volume One
Katsushika Hokusai was an internationally recognized artist, renowned for his skillful and refined wood block prints. These erotic scenes were created towards the end of his life, and are through to have been originally published in 1833. Although many artists created erotica in various mediums, they generally did so anonymously. These prints are unique in that they have been inscribed by the master.
The Merry Drinkers
by Kitigawa Utamaro (1753-1806)
Limited Edition, Volume Two
Kitagawa Utamaro was considered a master artist of the first rank, and enjoyed an international reputation. He is best known for his highly mannered depictions of shunga, or Japanese erotica. Additionally, he is often credited with being the founding father of the Ukiyo-e Revival, a style of color prints portraying everyday life in Edo period (1615-1867) Japan. He left behind a large, important and enduring body of work. The images included in this volume are through to have been originally published between 1801 and 1803.
